Hey, Hey You!

Heeeeeeyyyyyy you guuuuuuuys.
Where do you live?
Yes, I'm talking to each of you. So make sure you answer.
I live in Memphis.
And here, when it rains and it's cold/when bad weather is expected/when there is 1 cm of snow, schools close.
With a quickness.

Luckily, my work does too.
{Knock on wood.}
Yesterday we got sleet.
And schools closed 1 hour early.
And work closed around 2:30.
I move lightning fast when I get an email that says "Due to inclement weather....." cause I know the streets will be insane.
I work on the naval base which was awesome when I was single so everyone scambles to get off the base at the same time.
And this chick moves fast and doesn't like to wait in lines.

This morning, schools were closed.
And work wasn't.
Womp, womp.

Luckily, I work a flexible schedule.
So, instead of getting here at 6:30 like normal, I got here at 8:45.
Holla!
And I'll be leaving around noon.
It's like a little game of chance...if I leave before they dismiss us, I have to use my own vacation time. If I hold out until they dismiss us, I get paid without using vacation time. Which is ideal. Obvs.

When it sleets/snows/there's any kind of warning, there is a MAD dash to the grocery store.
It's like we are shopping like it's 1999 and the end of the world is near.
I was so freaking freaked out in 1999, what would we do without the internet??? Am I the only one that was scared?

But, this girl has groceries for days in her house.
Which is both a blessing and a curse.
Snowed in the house = eating like a horse. All. Dang. Day.
But not me, I'm not going down like that.

I have been faithful to MFP for almost 2 weeks now.
Follow me on there @MrsLoYoung.
And my challenge ends on Friday.
I have never stuck to anything in my life this long, y'all.
Workout wise, I mean.

And I've gotten obsessed with working out.
For real, when I heard there was ice, my first thought was "Would it be dumb to rain in sleet?"
Cause my half marathon training requires running, in case you didn't know. And I am following it to a tee.
Also, I can't miss out on the elliptical.
I think I'm addicted to it.
Yesterday, I reached 60 minutes and restarted the thing to get to 90 minutes...but alas, I had to go home to cook dinner so I didn't make it.
But I wanted to....that's what's crazy!!!
I love seeing that calorie burn on there and I love getting the "Way to go girl!" remarks on MFP/IG/my blog.

It's like a drug that I can't stop.
I've also decided that even if I get knocked up {say a little prayer that I do please and thank you}, I'll still be getting my butt and my bun (in the oven) up on that elliptical.

I'll be back tomorrow with my weigh in post....
I can already tell you that unless I start working out now and don't eat until tomorrow morning {totally not happening, don't worry} then I won't have a huge loss to report like I did last week.
But my head is still held high because hard work and not giving up is the combination that WILL eventually bring big results.

Happy Tuesday Y'all!
Can I go home now?! Pin It Now!

  1. Jealous! I live in Minnesota (but you already knew that because I only mention it like every other blog post) and when I was in high school, we didn't have ONE snow day. I think once or twice we got a 2-hour delay. It was insane. I learned the reason later: our superintendent moved to MN from CA and the first year at his job he called a snow day anytime he saw white on the ground. Parents complained and that meant that when I got to high school, I had to tromp my ass through 2 feet of snow to the bus stop.

So glad to hear that your challenge is going well! You're killing it! Gotta take advantage of those bursts of motivation when they come along (and ride the high)!

  2. I'm down in Lafayette, Louisiana- people act like crazy wild animals in incliment weather down here too. You'd think the end of the world is coming! I personally wouldn't run in sleet- I'd take it to the dreadmill. I love that you're adcited to excersise! It's the BEST! I can't wait to hear about your results from the challenge! Hope you get to go home early lady :) Happy Tuesday!

  3. And if that whole team on Biggest Loser only lost like 2 lbs a piece after all they were doing, then I'm ok if I only lose a pound this week, lol. Basically as long as I don't gain, I'm happy!

  4. I live about 45 mintues east of you in Somerville. I work for my husband, who is NOT at work today --he's duck hunting in Forrest City, AR. I'm just wondering if he's going to make it home today or not. Anywho! Good luck with getting home & I'm now following you on MFP. I LOVE that system!!!!

  5. Congrats on reaching 300 readers! I wish I could workout longer also. I usually do an hour a day, strenth and cardio. Somedays I need longer though. Oklahoma is the same way with winter weather. People clear the shelves at the grocery store.

  8. I'm an Iowan! And we don't shut down work unless there's a butt load of snow (6 inches +). Schools close faster than that but most people just have to find daycare for their kids on those days. Stinks for those who work!

Keep up the good work!!! I just sent a request on MFP even tho I'm not using it right now. Want to be all set w/ good support on there when July comes around!

  9. I am in Niagara Falls, Canada. Schools close more for icy roads then snow around here. If schools or work close around here we have to get dumped a good ten inches or so in one snow storm.

Great job getting out there to run in the sleet, I wouldn't have! haha! Great job sticking to MFP! I have been pretty consistent since the new year but for some reason yesterday I didn't use it. :)

  10. KC, MO here. We are used to the snow, but that doesn't mean that people know how to drive in it.

Great job on the workouts! I personally think the elliptical is evil. :)

  11. I live in Kentucky and your weather is heading my way. My place of employment has never shut down due to weather but school is called off with the threat of snow. Boo!!

  12. I live in Indianapolis, IN now, and they don't go at all crazy about snow, they seem to deal with it wonderfully here, and schools hardly ever close unless it's really bad. However, where I grew up in southern Indiana, school was out for an inch or less and like your area, grocery stores were packed with people. It's crazy that just a two hour drive north allows people to come to their senses.

As far as getting knocked up, I'm praying for ya! It took us almost 2 years, but we're finally there. Don't give up!

  13. I live down the skreet from you! Lol! I am glad I went to Kroger yesterday. It was bad enough then. There was not much bread left! Hahahaha!

  14. I live in SW Arkansas. I love MFP and am up to 15 days. We are having a snow day too. Hope you have milk and bread because I think that's what we are all supposed to eat when it snows. Lol! At least that's what the mad dash to the grocery stores around here are for. Working out does get addicting. I wish I had a gym closer or this cold weather would go away!

  15. So proud of you girl! You are doing so well. Even if you don't have a huge loss this week, you are clearly building positive habits. I love that you love it!

  16. Did y'all get to leave early today? I was so excited when they said we could go at 1:30. My patio and front porch is like an ice death trap right now. We didn't get to leave early yesterday, boo. I'm ready for ice storm '94 haha! That's awesome for you! I keep forgetting to put stuff on MFP.

  17. I live in Tucson,Arizona, schools never close, ever. The last time we had snow was over five years ago and of course I was flying home from Tennesse that day and got stuck in Phoenix with a toddler because good 'ol arizona doesn't have the propper equiptment to de-ice planes so all planes were grounded until the sun melted that stuff away. I ended up staying the night at a friends house and the planes were still grounded the next day so since all the rental cars were taken someone had to drive up and get us. Crazy.

I hope you get to leave early and way to go on making the MFP challenge, I stink and it didnt happen. I really need to get back at it.

  19. I live in Grand Rapids, MI and found you when we were on the MckMama bandwagon last August. I used her products for about three days and decided that I wanted to chew on something other than meat so I started counting calories and actually moving my body for once. When I began in August I was 235 and as of this week I'm weighing in at 215 so 20 pounds in five months doing it the old fashioned way...one pound at a time. I'm following on Instagram and my gosh you are KILLING IT, you started and you've gone hard since the word go. You're inspiring to many.

  20. Way to go on your challenge!
I'm down in the SW corner of Mississippi. People here get crazy with the weather change and can't drive in snow or ice. Our schools closed part of the day last week and are tomorrow also. Hoping we get some sunshine soon!
